Internal Linking
arkmetis analyzes your website's internal link structure after each crawl. This helps you identify weaknesses in your site architecture and improve navigation for users and search engines.
Features
Link Graph
A visual representation of your internal linking. At a glance, you can see which pages are heavily linked and where connections are missing.
Orphan Pages
Pages that are not linked from any other page internally. These pages are hard to find for both users and search engines -- they fall through the cracks.
Tip: Orphan pages are one of the most common SEO mistakes. Every important page should have at least one internal link pointing to it.
Broken Links
Links pointing to non-existent pages (404 errors). arkmetis finds these automatically during each crawl and shows you exactly which page contains the broken link.
External Link Check
arkmetis checks all external links on your website weekly via HEAD requests. This helps you catch early when linked external pages have gone offline or their URL has changed.
Link Positions
arkmetis detects where a link is placed on the page:
| Position | Description |
|---|---|
| Header | Links in the header area |
| Navigation | Links in the main navigation |
| Content | Links within the page content (body text) |
| Sidebar | Links in the sidebar |
| Footer | Links in the footer area |
Link Types
Each link is classified by type:
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Navigation | Menu and navigation links |
| Inline | Text links within body content |
| CTA | Call-to-action links (buttons, highlighted links) |
| Image | Linked images |
| Logo | Logo link (usually to the homepage) |
Recommendations
arkmetis provides concrete improvement suggestions:
- Which pages need more internal links
- Where link distribution is unbalanced
- Which broken links should be fixed immediately
- Which external links are no longer reachable
Tip: Links within the content area (body text) are more valuable for SEO than links in navigation or footer. Make sure to link important pages from within your content as well.
Automatic Analysis
The internal link analysis runs automatically with each crawl -- you don't need to start anything manually. The external link check runs weekly.
Cost
Internal linking analysis is free and included in the crawl. No additional credits are charged.
