Sites (Domains)
Each project can have multiple websites. This is especially useful for clients with a shop, blog, or multiple domains.
Site Roles
Every site has a role that determines how arkmetis treats it:
| Role | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | Main domain – always exactly one | dr-mueller.at |
| Secondary | Additional active domain | shop.dr-mueller.at |
| Source | Old domain being replaced | old-website.at |
As soon as you add a source site, the migration section automatically appears in the sidebar, including content mapping, redirect map, and go-live checklist.
Site Environments
Each site has an environment that determines which features are active:
| Environment | GEO Tracking | PageSpeed API | Crawl | Alerts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Live | Yes | Google API | Normal | Yes |
| Staging | No | Local Lighthouse | Normal | No |
| Dev | No | Local Lighthouse | Daily automatic | No |
Dev sites also support Basic Auth, which is handy for websites that are still password-protected.
Adding a Site
- Open the project settings
- Click "Add Site"
- Enter the domain and select a role and environment
- Optional: Verify the domain
How the Project Type Is Determined
arkmetis calculates the type automatically based on your sites:
- Only 1 site – Standard project
- Multiple active sites – Multi-site project
- Source sites present – Migration project
This can change at any time. If you remove the source site, the migration section disappears from the sidebar. If you add a second domain, it becomes a multi-site project.
Domain Verification
You can prove domain ownership via a DNS TXT record. arkmetis automatically detects your DNS provider and displays the appropriate instructions.
Verification is optional but recommended. It unlocks advanced features and prevents others from analyzing your domain.
